Museum of New Caledonia
This is one of the oldest museums in the city dedicated to the history and life of the Kanak people who inhabited the islands thousands of years ago.
The archaeological excavations showed that the Kanak tribes where сannibal – they ate the brains of the deceased.
In the museum, you will see the samples of their huts, farming inventory, clothing, and artwork.
Mont-Dore
Mont-Dore is a town which is adjacent to Noumea, although most of its territory is still wild and uninhabited.
Please be aware that you have to pack some extra snacks and water with you because the resources on the way are too limited.
We are talking about hiking to the height of 2,559 feet.
The hiking trail is 7.2 km long and considered a difficult one.

Anse Vata
Anse Vata is a really nice beach in Noumea.
You can spend some time on a beach getting suntan, or learn to kitesurf.
Anse Vata can be reached by bus from the downtown Noumea.
There you will find lots of small cafes, restaurants, hotels, and entertainment.
Lemon Bay
Lemon Bay or Baie des Citrons is a very romantic place.
Besides the lemon trees, you will have the opportunity to find a place on a one-kilometer long sandy beach.
This place is good for families with kids since it’s not windy most of the time.
If you love disco, you will find some nightclubs to choose from, and they will always serve you a cocktail at night or a cup of coffee in the morning in the nearest cafe or restaurant.
Tjibaou Cultural Center
The Tjibaou Cultural Center is located on a small peninsula.
It was created to keep traditions of the Kanak and other peoples of Oceania.
The construction of the building can withstand the strongest winds from the Pacific Ocean.
You will find a cafe, an exhibition space, temporary projects, expositions, and multimedia exhibitions in the center.
Port Moselle Market
How else can you learn about a new place and its people if you do not visit one of the local markets?
Noumea city is famous for its Port Moselle Market at the seaside where you can see the catch of the fishermen, and counters with the freshest exotic fruits.
During the weekend, you can listen to live music.
In the mornings, the market is full of people so you should better come in the afternoon to walk here.
Coconut Tree Square
Coconut Tree Square is an animated place in the capital of New Caledonia.
It is a very scenic spot with a fountain, a statue, a huge chessboard, and a botanical garden.
The Place des Cocotiers is a perfect place for entertainment.
The live concerts and street markets twice a month bring joy to people in the area.
