1. Post a Photo from La Candelaria
La Candelaria is the ideal place to take colorful photos for Instagram.
This spot is easy to reach in the historical center of Bogota.
The houses and streets breathe old days and welcome you to explore the area.
If you like street art, step on the cobbles and let your little adventure begin.
You will see some works in grotesque and modern style, pass by the most crowded hostels here, and check the local graffiti.
2. Take a Shot of Aguardiente
What a water-burning trip!
A shot of Aguardiente is especially appropriate in the evening.
Nevertheless, if you feel like your soul needs something special in the afternoon, look in Andres Carne de Res restaurant.
You’ll be offered all the classical foods and drinks from Colombia on more than 65 pages of the menu.
Sounds impressive.
3. Buy Antique Gifts from Flea Market
It’s quite a good idea to buy something unique for a souvenir from the flea market.
You’ll dig out a real treasure.
In Colombian Bogota, there are two famous flea markets.
A better one is called Usaquen, and it’s selling antique goods, food and handmade things.
The music bands like to hold their art events here, and you can often see food courts too.
The second one, San Alejo is less popular but still too much attractive.
You can buy old second-hand objects from the tents at the market.
4. Take a Guided Tour to Guatavita
Are there any lakes in Bogota?
The most legendary and picturesque Lake Guatavita can be discovered on the territory of epic El Dorado.
The ancient tribes of Muisca called this place holy so they threw lots of gold in the lake.
A famous Museum of Gold in Bogota that we will discuss later in this post, was founded here too.
That’s because most of the gold in Colombia was discovered here.
The locals recommend taking a guided tour to the lake to listen to the fantastic stories and admire the nature to the full.
5. Hold Your Breath on Montserrat
The mountain is 3,151 m above the sea level which is breathtaking and truly impressive.
To reach the top of Montserrat, you can take a funicular or a special tram in the air.
Some tourists prefer hiking to not only see but feel the rocks with their feet.
The best time to climb is in the evening or late at night.
By the way, they won’t leave you hungry on the top.
There’s an authentic old church, the pearl of Renaissance, Romanesque, Gothic and Eclectic architecture.
And there’s some food to have a bite.
6. Dig into the Gold Museum
This glittering metal is loved by billions.
Much gold was discovered in Bogota, Colombia.
The Gold Museum holds the most extensive collection of gold items.
Over fifty thousand gold things from pre-hispanic times have been kept here behind the walls of the Colombian ‘treasury’.
7. Feel Inspired in the Salt Cathedral
Zipaquira is an underground catholic temple built in salt mines at a depth of almost 200 m.
It is located near the Colombian city of Zipaquira 55 km north of Bogota.
The walls of the cathedral are 75% pure salt carved in halite rock.
This religious center is a place of pilgrimage for faithful people.
The salt church is considered one of the wonders of the world.
8. Relax at Simon Bolivar Park
The park is not only a large green spot in the city of Bogota where you can hide from the noisy crowds of people.
Sometimes it becomes very noisy when a famous rock festival takes place on the territory of Simon Bolivar Park.
Anyway, the festivals are rather rare, so we are pretty sure you can have a peaceful time and some yummy ice cream here.
9. Have a Ball in the Best Club
Not really gay?
Not a problem.
This gay club in Bogota called Teatron is one of the best clubs of this kind in South America which welcomes everyone on board.
You do not need to be gay to feel the relaxing atmosphere, to loosen up on one of 13 dance floors or find a drink.
A long time ago, Teatron used to be a movie theatre.
Well, now the nightclub sessions are quite different yet very amusing.
10. Spend a Day in Villa de Leyva
Buy a guided tour or equip yourself with a map and GPS to head to the colonial municipality of Bogota.
The trip to Villa de Leyva is considered the best day trip.
The territory of the colonial town features some queerish buildings that you can approach by walking on the cobbles.
The largest square in Colombia, Plaza Mayor attracts the tourists and is impressive in size (14,000 sqm).
