South Africa

South Africa, a beautiful country located on the southern point of the African continent, is a country riddled with crime.

As of 2020, the population of South Africa stood at 59.31 million residents.

It is rich in culture and boasts 11 official languages.

The country is made up of multiple cultures including African, Caucasian, Indian, Chinese, mixed race, and indigenous people.

By the last quarter of 2021, the country saw an 8.9% increase in crime levels across the country.

The country is a mixture of the third world and the first world due to the inequalities between those on the richest end of the scale and those on the poorest end of the scale.

Violent crimes such as murder, physical assault, sexual assault, and manslaughter are among the most popular types of crime in this country.

When travelling, apply common sense, ie don’t wear jewellery, don’t show your money. Most thieves are right handed, so if you must use a pocket, use the left one, but put something on top of anything in pockets or stash items in underwear or under clothing. Do NOT open maps in public, this is asking to be mugged anywhere.
Do not speak loudly as your twangy accent is equal to blood to a shark, SHUT UP.
Mimic the locals, watch how they walk and move as each region or area in EVERY country has a “way of being”. No, the world is not your oyster. Blend in and stop being an ignorant tourist.
If you do not speak the language, draw pictures SHUT UP.

knife and gun crimes are in the rise countries like UK
America is riddled with gun crimes
white collar crimes are also evident abroad
I like my country nice weather friendly people
you have to risk assess everywhere in the world
I have never been mugged in South Africa
But have experienced hate crimes in the UK so evident

  6. I live in Europe, but I plan to move to South Africa in the future. I fell in love with the country back in 2011/12, even though I’ve never been there (strange, I know!) – its beautiful landscapes, friendly people, and great local food have captivated me. I also have friends who moved to South Africa quite some time ago.
Crime exists virtually everywhere, even in affluent, well-policed countries. If we examine some statistics, South Africa actually has significantly lower crime rates than certain parts of Europe, especially in tourist-heavy areas.
Before the pandemic, I traveled extensively and hardly encountered any crime (aside from the occasional pickpockets). Naturally, people who have spent most of their lives in the same area are more likely to perceive a rise in crime over time.
