As an American who’s been living in England for the past 36 years, I plan on coming ‘home’ to the states soon. I have a town home in New Bern, NC, but Bluffton sounds so charming, I might sell up and move there. It’ll be a long process shipping my belongings from the UK initially to New Bern, and then checking out Bluffton to see if it’s my type of place to live. Sounds ideal to make a home there.
Try Beaufort also
Should also consider “Con” majority of people in Bluffton are not from Bluffton, Beaufort County, South Carolina, or the Southeast. The influx of people from elsewhere (New England and the rust belt) impacts local culture and property value. Also inform people that there isn’t much left to observe in Bluffton as the influx of people from elsewhere (aforementioned) all want a piece of the pie. Shorelines are being destroyed and any free standing timber is clear cut for developments. That low cost of living and low crime rates are soon to be a memory
That sounds so very negative. It is such a charming and very artsy area. I am from Washington, DC. I find it low key. Absolutely a charming find.
You should move now.
Another challenge is finding doctors, especially specialists. With the population skyrocketing, it is difficult to find doctors still accepting patients. And many of us are older. Savannah and Beaufort doctors have helped. However, some people must go to Charleston, for rarer issues.
