Cyprus is one of the most unique places in the world.

It combines the modern world with ancient traditions and architecture.

It is a beautiful Mediterranean island with a warm azure sea.

Sandy and rocky beaches along with developed infrastructure attract millions of tourists.

You can plunge into the history of Hellenic and Turkish culture, walk along cozy narrow streets, and enjoy the original Cypriot cuisine.

We’ve made a list of top interesting things to do in Cyprus.

Larnaca

Zenobia Shipwreck

Zenobia is the main underwater attraction of Cyprus in Larnaca.

People often call it Mediterranean Titanic.

Accessibility, a large number of different rooms and compartments, and internal crossings encourage divers to dive again and again.

You can explore a large number of sea inhabitants, as overtime, Zenobia turned into a huge man-made reef.

A surface overlooking may take more than one dive given due to the size of the ship.

Many visitors cannot go diving for health reasons.

Therefore, the owners organize a 50-minute ferry-tour.

The Kyriazis Medical Museum

It’s a wonderful small museum which people connected with the medicine will love.

The museum is located in a private mansion.

The entrance is free of charge, but it’s open only two days a week.

The owner is a hereditary doctor.

He tells interesting facts about the museum and allows to touch medical apparatus.

The museum exhibits medical tools, books, and documents that relate to the practice of Cypriot medicine.

It also tells about the history of medicine on the island from antiquity to modernity.

Hippocratic Oath is among the old exhibits of the museum.

This and other tools represent the healing methods of the past without anesthesia, bloodletting instruments, and various medical devices.

Varosha and Famagusta

For many centuries, the city of Famagusta in Cyprus was one of the most important ports and trading points of the Mediterranean.

Today it is also a major regional center.

In 1974, when Turkey invaded Cyprus, the island was divided into two parts.

The city of Famagusta was under control of the Turkish army.

Many residents were either killed or expelled from the city.

This later left about 8 thousand Turks to live here.

Today, Famagusta is a ghost town, with the world-famous Varosha quarter.

It attracts thousands of tourists with its majestic fortress walls, dilapidated medieval churches, beautiful beaches, and its ambiguous history.

Although, tourists often travel here to see the abandoned quarters and wander through its medieval streets for a few hours.

Many come here every year in the hope to see Varosha.

However, this can be done only through barriers or photographs.

Nature

We highly recommend exploring the beauty of stunning Cyprus nature.

The southern part of Cyprus is famous for its endless beaches with blue crystal water and sugar sand.

But the northern part is marked by rocky mountains and gorges.

In general, the island has quite a lot of mountains.

The most famous mountain range is Troodos.

Its area is covered with pine forests, amazing coves are places inside of it.

Troodos is the place where the peak of Olympus is located, the one that you learned about thanks to Greek mythology.

Also, don’t miss the chance to taste traditional Cypriot cuisine – it’s really worth it.

The national dishes of Cyprus had mostly Greek and Turkish influence.

The North

If you don’t want the hustle and bustle of the southern cities, look for solitude and untouched nature in the North.

Northern Cyprus is not so popular among tourists as Southern is.

The most popular tourist destinations in Northern Cyprus are Kyrenia, Famagusta, and Dipkarpaz.

The terrain of a small fishing port on the Gulf of Famagusta is famous for its beauty and amazing golden sandy beaches.

Nicosia will also be interesting to all tourists for its sights, unhurried walks, delicious Turkish food, and shopping.
