RESTAURANTS

Louisville has some of the best food selections in the country and rivals big-time foodie cities like New York and Chicago.

You can come and try the food from almost any part of the world you can imagine and never even have to think about a “chain” restaurant unless you really want to save some money.

MARKETS

You’ll have no problem finding 24-hour supermarkets here and they’re well-stocked, too.

Cooking by yourself is very economical, and if you have a shopping list, and you’re smart about your groceries, following all the daily sales in regular American supermarket stores – then you can save a bunch of money.

TRANSPORTATION

Louisville’s public transit service, TARC offers bus lines in all parts of Louisville Metro.

Fares are 1.80$ for adults (75 cents for children between 6 and 17) with a possibility for two transfers in two hours – which is definitely more than reasonable.

You’ll also be fine with a car, as it’s not too expensive and the traffic’s not bad in Louisville either.

UTILITIES (MONTHLY)

Like in most other American cities, utilities aren’t too expensive in Louisville – by American standards, though it does depend on the amount of electricity you use and on the size of your apartment.

For example, for a bit larger apartment, of about 85m2, all basic utilities like heating, cooling, electricity, and gas will cost you around 195$.

SPORTS & LEISURE

Louisville boasts some great parks (all free) to walk, jog, ride a bike, and play ball (basketball, soccer, baseball, etc.)

A gym or a fitness club membership will cost you only around 25$ while going to the cinema and enjoying some movie time is also pretty reasonable, at 12$ per ticket.

CLOTHING & SHOES

Though there are several malls and shopping areas in which to browse for clothing and shoes, you can support Louisville’s impressive number of locally-owned businesses by shopping in areas like the Highlands.

As for the regular brands, you can buy quality jeans for around 52$, and running sneakers for 80$.

RENT PER MONTH

The cost of renting, in general, is incredibly low.

You can find a large-sized, two-bedroom apartment in some parts of the city for well under $1,300 a month, and even in the city center where you can find one for around 800$.

As you get further away from the center, the prices drop, so you can find a one-bedroom apartment for roughly 920$.
