RESTAURANTS

Texas is already a great state for beer, and Dallas’ own breweries (like Peticolas, Lakewood, and Deep Ellum, just to name a few) are important additions.

There are many simple bars where you’ll find craft beer with food better than in a lot of upscale restaurants.

Fast food is huge in the US, and this applies to Dallas too, so you can expect all the usual chain restaurants where you can eat for a couple of dollars.

MARKETS

As for groceries, you have the usual 7-11 convenience stores, but they have a limited selection and high prices.

The major supermarket chains in Dallas are Kroger, Tom Thumb, Albertson’s, and Fiesta Mart.

There’s also the nation’s largest discount store chain, Walmart.

Many specialty and organic supermarkets such as Whole Foods Market and Central Market can also be found but with higher prices.

TRANSPORTATION

You have to have a car in Dallas because public transportation is spotty at best.

Most people living there actually claim that you can’t get anywhere in Dallas without a car.

There is a DART service that connects the whole city by bus and train, though, and it is completely free for students.

UTILITIES (MONTHLY)

Utilities are rather cheap in Dallas, which is expected in Texas.

The cost of utilities there amounts to around 196.19$ per month for basic ones like electricity, water, cooling, heating, and garbage services in an apartment of 85m2.

Internet, however, is pretty expensive compared to this and especially compared to many other world countries.

SPORTS & LEISURE

There are tons of great golf courses and outdoor activities including Katy Trail and White Rock Lake if you like exercising outdoors.

But even though there are several great outdoor spots, they’re really far away from the center, so if you prefer gyms and fitness centers, a month of going to the gym or being a member of a fitness club will cost you around 46$.

CLOTHING & SHOES

If you like to shop you are in luck! Highland Park Village and the Galleria are popular malls and you can roam for hours there.

The prices are relatively low – quality jeans cost around 58.33$, while summer dresses and shirts are also around 46$.

Running sneakers remain more expensive, costing around 92$.

RENT PER MONTH

This region is consistently near the top in the country for affordability, and especially housing, if we look at normal American rent standards, but Dallas is a bit more expensive than other cities in the region.

Apartments in a low-income area are around 1,446.36 $ and the price goes up from there.
